Liberal Nationals pledge funding for ConnectGV redevelopment in Shepparton

A Liberal Nationals Government will contribute funds that will see the complete redevelopment of the Day Options facility at ConnectGV in Shepparton.

An elected Liberal Nationals Government will contribute $2 million towards the redevelopment of the Social Enterprise training and Day Options facility at ConnectGV’s Bowenhall Street campus.

Established in 1954, ConnectGV has become the leading disability provider within the Goulburn Valley, currently offering day options, supported employment, residential options and outreach services to clients and their families.

The current building in Bowenhall Street, which was open in 1968 has major structural defects and is unfit for clients and staff in its current condition.

The commitment by the Liberal Nationals is in stark contrast to Minister for Housing, Ageing & Disability Martin Foley who has been dismissive of the condition of the ConnectGV building over the last four years.

This commitment by the Liberal Nationals will provide ConnectGV with a purpose-built facility that will allow them to deliver quality services to their clients and meet the future growth in the Shepparton electorate and surrounding districts.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Disability, Tim Bull:

“After 64 years offering support to people with a disability in the Goulburn Valley, the building ConnectGV operates from is old and rundown.

ConnectGV will be better equipped to meet the needs of local people with a disability in a new state-of-the-art facility to be funded by a Liberal Nationals Government.”

Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Shepparton, Cheryl Hammer:

“Having learnt of the disrepair of Connect GV’s facility more than 30 years ago as a local journalist, I know firsthand how important this redevelopment will be to the offering of modern disability services in our region.

After years of neglect, the clients of Connect GV will have the first-class facility they deserve.”

Comments attributable to The Nationals Candidate for Shepparton, Peter Schwarz:

“Serious structural problems are impacting ConnectGV’s ability to support people in our community – we’ll fix the problems to make sure they have a modern facility.

ConnectGV is growing – this critical redevelopment will help them meet our community’s needs in Shepparton, and the Goulburn Valley, into the future.”
