Medical History for Foster and Kinship Carers

The Liberal Nationals know the vital support and dedication our foster and kinship carers give in caring for some of Victoria’s most vulnerable children.

That’s why a Liberal Nationals Government will enable foster and kinship carers to have access to the medical history records of children placed in their care within 48 hours.

This announcement comes during Foster Care Week which raises awareness about foster care within the community and highlights the challenges often faced by foster and kinship carers, such as gaining access to these very vital records.

Under a Matthew Guy led Government, foster and kinship carers will be assured to know they will have timely access to medical history of a child that comes into their care.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Families and Children, Georgie Crozier:

“Our carers do an extraordinary job in opening up their homes and their hearts to children in need and that’s why a Liberal Nationals Government will support the work they do.

A Liberal Nationals Government will value the work of foster and kinship carers and will recognise the significant challenges they go through. These children often have complex histories and the needs of the child must come first. Facilitating access to basic medical records should be a priority and needs to happen.

We have listened to the concerns of carers around the state who have told us they need to have timely access to basic medical histories of children in their care.”
