Andrews slashes support for Local Government in Budget
The big cut in this year’s budget is the halving of the Growing Suburbs Fund which represents a massive cut of $50 million to growth councils in particular over this year and next year.
Victorian families in the growth areas will be the losers as vital and necessary local infrastructure projects are put on hold as a result of Daniel Andrews’ savage cuts.
Quotes attributable to the Shadow Minister for Local Government, David Davis MP:
Daniel Andrews has in this Budget betrayed young Victorian families. The growth councils more than any other face unique challenges of meeting their growing communities’ legitimate expectations of adequate infrastructure and services. These challenges have now been greatly magnified.
Daniel Andrews’ attitude that funding for councils is the low hanging fruit for budget cuts is evident for all to see. In his first Budget he abolished the highly successful $40 million per annum Country Roads and Bridges Program and in this budget he has cut $50 million from Victoria’s growth councils.
Meanwhile the Minister for Local Government Natalie Hutchins has gone into hiding having failed to stand up for communities.
