Davis: Liberal Nationals commit $3.0m to deliver more Ballarat bus services

Friday 9 November 2018

Liberal Nationals commit $3.0m to deliver more Ballarat bus services

An elected Liberal National Government will commit $3.0m to deliver more bus services to commuters in Ballarat.

Service frequency during peak times will increase to 30 minutes on select routes, making it easier, faster and more convenient for people to get to where they need to be. Weekday operating hours will also be extended to meet evening trains and allow for a night life in Ballarat without depending on cars to get home.

Precise changes will be negotiated in consultation with bus companies, the community and in particular, regular commuters. Bus routes will also be refined to match changes in rail time tables.

Daniel Andrews and Labor have lost control of population growth and can’t be trusted to deliver services to meet today’s demands in regional Victoria, let alone service demands for the future. They’ve had 15 years out of the last 19 years to get it right, and they have failed.

Daniel Andrews and Labor have no plan to make your commute quicker, no plan to improve public transport connectivity, and no track record of success to point to.

Matthew Guy and the Liberals have a comprehensive plan to get back in control of population growth, and deliver the public transport services that are needed.

Comments attributable to the Shadow Minister for Public Transport, David Davis:

Matthew Guy and the Liberal Nationals have a plan to get back in control of our population, and have a plan to deliver more, much needed bus services in Wendouree.

This initiative complements the European style fast train on the Ballarat line aimed at opening up our regions and regional cities, and shortening your daily commutes.

Comments attributable to Amy Johnson, Liberal Candidate for Wendouree:

In my time on council, I have discussed on many occasions with residents the need for longer operating hours and increased frequency in relation to bus services through central Ballarat and Wendouree. I welcome this commitment from an elected Liberal Nationals government.

Comments attributable to Liberal member for Ripon, Louise Staley:

Residents of Miners Rest, Alfredton, Creswick and Lucas have been calling for more bus services, better connectivity with rail services, and extended bus operating hours – they have been ignored by Daniel Andrews and Jacinta Allan. Unlike Labor, the Liberal Nationals have listened to these communities and in government will deliver.

Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Buninyong, Andrew Kilmartin:

As I speak to residents in Buninyong, the need for improved bus services is often raised as an issue. I welcome this commitment being made by an elected Liberal National government as it will improved bus services to Buninyong, Mount Clear, Sebastopol and Smythes Creek.
