Davis: Liberal Nationals to protect Hanging Rock

Liberal Nationals to protect Hanging Rock

The Liberal Nationals will ensure that Hanging Rock and adjacent East Paddock is protected from inappropriate development.

If elected in November, a Matthew Guy led government will rezone East Paddock to ensure it is protected from commerial development.

Further, a Liberal National Government will work with Macedon Ranges Shire Council to assess if East Paddock could be incorporated into the Hanging Rock Reserve as Crown Land.

The previous Liberal Government included protections for East Paddock in 2014, which has been abandoned by the current Labor Government.

The recent Hanging Rock 50 Year Strategic Plan laid out by the Labor Government in conjunction with the Macedon Ranges Shire Council does not rule out possible commerical developments at East Paddock.

Only the Liberal Nationals will remove the uncertainty around one of Victoria’s most iconic natural assets.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Planning, David Davis:

“Hanging Rock is an icon that deserves to be protected. The rock and its surrounds including East Paddock should not have intense inappropriate development.

Amanda Millar has campaigned hard both locally and on Spring Street to ensure that Hanging Rock is protected now and into the future.”

Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Macedon, Amanda Millar:

“The community of Macedon deserves to know that Hanging Rock and East Paddock will be protected from inapproprate development.

Mary Anne Thomas and Labor have sat on their hands and failed to protect East Paddock – leaving the door open to renewed proposals to build ugly facilities there against the strong wishes of this community.”
