No more waiting: Liberals will remove Mooroolbark and Lilydale rail crossings

A Liberal Nationals Government will remove the dangerous rail crossings at Manchester Road in Mooroolbark and Main Street in Lilydale in its first term of government.

These rail crossings cause both the Mooroolbark and Lilydale communities’ major congestion during peak times, especially when parents are trying to take or pick up their children from surrounding local schools.

Daniel Andrews has failed to properly manage population growth with traffic congestion chocking suburban streets.

The Liberal Nationals will get ahead of vital road infrastructure like removing dangerous and frustrating rail crossings to keep traffic moving during peak times.

Despite the promises of Daniel Andrews not one sod of soil has been turned at either rail crossing, claiming both projects have been stuck in the “very early planning stages” for the last 4 years.

The Labor Government’s Level Crossing Removal budget has blown out by more than $3.3 billion with only half of the projects completed.

The Liberal Nationals will get back in control of traffic congestion, so people can get home faster and spend more time with their families.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Public Transport, David Davis:

“Under an elected Liberal Nationals Government, we will pursue the rail-under-road option at both rail crossings.

Labor’s out of control spending has meant residents in Mooroolbark and Lilydale are forced to wait for vital infrastructure.

Only the Liberals will ensure the Mooroolbark and Lilydale rail crossings are removed in the next 4 years.”

Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Evelyn, Bridget Vallence:

“The growing communities of Mooroolbark and Lilydale have waited too long for these dangerous rail crossings to be removed.

Both Mooroolbark and Lilydale train stations are long overdue for upgrades. I will be fighting hard to improve and increase car parking capacity at both Mooroolbark and Lilydale train stations, as part of the rail crossing removals.

If I am elected to represent Evelyn, I will ensure that public transport is a top priority for the Yarra Valley.”

Comments attributable to Liberal Member for Croydon, David Hodgett:

“Daniel Andrews likes to talk about his record when it comes to delivering level crossing removals, but all he has delivered for the people of Lilydale and Mooroolbark are empty promises and false hopes while traffic congestion worsens.

Only a Liberal Nationals Government will remove these notorious congested and dangerous level crossings to dramatically improve safety and traffic flow in Mooroolbark and Lilydale.”
