Extra car parking at Eltham, Montmorency and Greensborough railway stations
A Liberal National Government will provide $4 million for 150 extra railway station car parking spaces at Eltham, Montmorency and Greensborough railway stations, on the highly congested Hurstbridge rail line.
The Hurstbridge line is one of Melbourne’s busiest, and like many areas of Melbourne, railway station car parking is now spilling over into local streets.
Funding from a Liberal National Government will maximise the use of existing VicTrack land and take the pressure off surrounding local streets and residents.
Further, the Andrews Labor Government has broken its promise of three extra peak hour rail services, on the Hurstbridge line starting at Eltham and Hurstbridge.
Comments attributable to Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy:
“A Liberal National Government will ensure that local streets around Eltham, Montmorency and Greensborough are no longer overflow car parks for railway stations.
“Labor has held the seat of Eltham for the last 17 years but has taken the area for granted and continues to ignore the chronic overcrowding at station carparks in the north east.”
Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Eltham, Nick McGowan:
“I’ve been knocking on a lot of doors in Eltham and a lot of locals tell me we need these extra car parking spaces and we need to cut traffic congestion.
“That’s why I’ve been working with Matthew Guy and his team on this plan for extra car parks so we can get more people onto public transport and off the roads.
“Extra car parks at stations like Eltham and Montmorency will encourage greater use of our rail system. In conjunction with our intersection removal program, this will help to relieve the huge congestion on Main Road and Fitzsimons Lane.”
