Liberal Nationals to fund $70 million for more, better connected, and enhanced bus services
An elected Liberal Nationals Government will commit $70 million to deliver more, better connected and enhanced bus services.
Daniel Andrews and Labor have failed to provide the bus services Victorians need today, let alone service demands for the future. They’ve had 15 years out of the last 19 years to get it right, and they have failed.
Labor’s lack of planning and piecemeal approach to connect bus, tram and train services, and Labor’s lack of action in the face of Victoria’s population growth has resulted in a public transport system that is disjointed, fails to meet current demand, and has no integrated transport plan to meet future community needs. In fact, bus patronage in the face of population growth has declined under Labor.
Access to a seamless, accessible, responsive public transport network is vital to all Victorians. Bus services are an essential component of connecting individuals to local shops, health services, schools, work, and friends and family.
That’s why the Liberal Nationals will fund $70 million to provide Better Bus Services across Melbourne and Victoria. Priority will be given to address known service deficiencies and to provide better connections across Melbourne.
This will be followed by studies to improve the stability and consistency of services, particularly at weekends and in areas where services are patchy.
Comments attributable to the Leader of the Liberal Party, Matthew Guy:
“Daniel Andrews and Labor have lost control of population growth and have not planned for, let alone delivered the public transport services that are needed to enable Victorians to seamlessly move across the public transport network and get to where they need to go.
The Liberal Nationals acknowledge that bus services are an essential component of our transport system and will commit $70 million to deliver more, better connected and enhanced bus services to commuters.”
Comments attributable to the Shadow Minister for Public Transport, David Davis:
“Matthew Guy and the Liberal Nationals have a plan to get back in control of our population, and have a plan to deliver more, much needed, better connected and enhanced bus services to commuters.
Labor have held government for 15 out of the last 19 years and have had more than enough time and opportunity to get it right. They have failed. It’s time for change.”
