Liberal Nationals to oppose $12 billion tolling extension on CityLink motorists
There’s nothing fair about slugging motorists in the north, east and south-east with up to 12 years of extra tolls to pay for a road in the west that they will never use.
That is why the Liberal Nationals will vote to disallow any Andrews Labor Government proposal to amend the CityLink Concession Deed to extend tolls in order to fund the West Gate Tunnel. We have advised Transurban of our position.
Daniel Andrews has no mandate for his West Gate Tunnel project and no mandate to hit motorists on other roads with a $12 billion toll extension.
The Liberal Nationals – unlike Labor – will honour government contracts validly entered into. However, as parliamentary approval is required to amend the CityLink concession deed, we are placing Daniel Andrews on notice that the Liberal Nationals will not vote for his toll slug on CityLink motorists.
Attributable to Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy:
“Daniel Andrews likes to talk a lot about fairness, but there’s nothing fair about making motorists in the north, east and south-east pay tolls for an extra 12 years to fund a road that they will never use.”
Attributable to Shadow Treasurer, Michael O’Brien:
“Victorians are already facing skyrocketing power prices and cost of living under Daniel Andrews, the last thing they need is a $12 billion toll hit.”
Attributable to Shadow Minister for Roads and Infrastructure, David Hodgett:
“Motorists in Sunbury, Frankston, Carrum, Mordialloc and Cranbourne will be right to ask why it’s fair to pay $12 billion in tolls for a road they may never use.”
