The Andrews Labor Government must immediately rule out creating traffic chaos for local motorists by constructing a new level at Plenty Road as part of the Mernda Rail extension.
Labor is removing level crossings in marginal seats on the Frankston line, but won’t give a guarantee to City of Whittlesea residents that they won’t create another on Plenty Road.
Labor must also commit to building a new railway station at Hawkestowe Road. It is concerning that the Andrews Labor government appears set to ditch a station that would serve thousands of residents.
Comments attributable to Opposition Leader Matthew Guy:
“Daniel Andrews has given just $9 million towards a project that will cost $600 million. He is all talk and no action.
Daniel Andrews and Danielle Green said they’d ‘not waste a day’ on building Menda Rail, yet nine months into government and almost nothing has happened.
The Coalition supports the Mernda Rail extension but it would be madness for the Labor government to build this project with a level crossing on Plenty Road.”
