Providing relief for parents

The Liberal Nationals believe the foundation of a good education is strong literacy and numeracy skills.

But achieving those literacy and numeracy skills is unnecessarily difficult for school children from families with serious financial stresses.

That’s why a Liberal Nationals Government will continue to support these families and children by committing $16 million to continue the good work of State Schools’ Relief.

This funding will also secure the continuation of State Schools’ Relief program ‘Glasses for Kids’. The program provides eye tests for Prep to Grade 3 students and provides glasses where needed.

State Schools’ Relief is a charity that has worked tirelessly since the Great Depression to provide school children in need with clothes, school uniforms, shoes and other essentials so they can continue to attend school and provide practical relief for families who are finding it hard to make ends meet.

Kids shouldn’t have to worry if they have shoes to wear to school or if they stand out from the other kids in their class. State Schools’ Relief seeks to ease that concern, so kids can get on with learning, making friends and enjoying their school years.

Daniel Andrews has lost control of cost of living prices and parents are feeling the squeeze more than ever with the family budget stretched thin.

In the four years of the Andrews Labor Government utilities costs like electricity, gas and water have sky-rocketed.

Add to that the 12 new or extra taxes that Daniel Andrews has introduced and it’s no wonder most Victorians feel they’re losing control of their personal finances.

The Liberal Nationals have a clear plan to help Victorian families get back in control of their finances, by cutting water bills by $100 under the Fairer Water Bills plan, provide free text books to state schools students and provide discounted rego for Red P Platers.

Comments attributable to Leader of the Liberal Party, Matthew Guy:

“Daniel Andrews and Labor have lost control of cost of living pressures.

Education is the key to opportunity and hope which is why it’s so important that school children from disadvantaged families have access to school uniforms and free glasses if they need them.

For families that are struggling financially this will make a small but very important difference.

A Liberal Nationals Government will get back in control of cost of living pressures.”

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Education, Tim Smith:

“A 2017 report by Food Bank showed that 46% of parents have skipped a meal so that their children can eat in instances where they have been unable to afford food.

Victorian families are doing it tough because of Daniel Andrews’ 9 new taxes and sky rocketing electricity costs.

Now Victorians are at risk of a new Labor tax on the family home of $435 per year, every year for 30 years.

A Liberal Nationals Government will help ease the squeeze on cost of living pressures for families doing it tough under Daniel Andrews.”

Comments attributable to Liberal candidate for Mulgrave, Maree Davenport:

As I doorknock through Mulgrave, residents tell me Daniel Andrews has lost control of cost of living expenses like electricity.

This funding will make a difference to so many families.”
