Hodgett: Enhancing traffic safety in Ocean Grove

Enhancing traffic safety in Ocean Grove

An elected Liberal Nationals Government will provide $1 million to fix safety and congestion at the intersection of Orton Street and President’s Avenue in Ocean Grove.

A Liberal Nationals Government will work together with the City of Greater Geelong to deliver an innovative solution to traffic congestion and road safety at this location.

Community consultation will also be conducted to provide the best long term design and allow for residents to have their voice heard on this important community issue.

Traffic volumes on Orton Street have increased in recent years, substantially increasing the risk for motorists and pedestrians.

Daniel Andrews and the current Member for Bellarine, Lisa Neville have failed to respond to local community advocacy on this issue over the last four years.

This announcement builds on the Liberal Nationals’ commitment to build both an East West Link and a North East Link, as well as removing 55 of Melbourne and Geelong’s busiest and most dangerous intersections through grade separations.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Roads and Infrastructure, David Hodgett:

“Lisa Neville has no idea about congestion in her electorate. Her chauffeured driven ministerial car doesn’t even drive through her electorate of Bellarine from her home in Geelong West to Spring Street.

The Liberal Nationals are committed to easing the crippling congestion on Melbourne’s roads, particularly as our population grows each year.

We are also committed to reducing our road toll and the incidence of injury or death, as a result of unsafe local roads, by making the right investments in our road networks.

If elected, a Liberal Nationals Government will fix this mess and ensure this intersection is upgraded to help keep pedestrians and road users safe.”

Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Bellarine, Brian McKiterick:

“Lisa Neville has no idea about congestion in her electorate. Her chauffeured driven ministerial car doesn’t even drive through her electorate of Bellarine from her home in Geelong West to Spring Street.

I have spoken with many local residents who are deeply concerned about safety at this busy and dangerous intersection.

That’s why I’ve been working with the community and Matthew Guy’s team to fix the design of this area and make it safe for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.”
