Melbourne Airport passenger numbers support case for airport rail link
Melbourne Airport today released figures showing a 12 per cent growth in international passenger numbers in the third quarter of 2014/15.
The total number of passengers increased by nearly 400,000 compared with the same period last year: 8,082,000 in this quarter in 2014/15, compared with 7,694,000 last year.
The Coalition announced the construction of an airport rail link as part of a $24 billion investment in transport infrastructure outlined in last year’s Budget.
Daniel Andrews and Labor have shelved plans for the airport rail link.
Comments from David Hodgett, Shadow Minister for Public Transport:
“Today’s figures from Melbourne Airport demonstrate why Daniel Andrews was so wrong to shelve the airport rail link project.
“Once again we are reminded that Daniel Andrews is a man without a plan to ease Melbourne’s growing transport demands.
“We have a city growing by 100,000 people a year and millions of tourists flocking here. But the need for infrastructure like the airport rail link seems obvious to everyone except Daniel Andrews.”
