Liberals to invest in Somerville Football Netball Club
Daniel Andrews has lost control of population growth and its hurting local community sport on the Mornington Peninsula.
That’s why an elected Liberal Nationals State Government will provide Somerville Football Netball Club and Somerville Cricket Club with $300,000 to buy and install the high quality lighting required to play night football and cricket competition games at the Somerville Recreation Reserve.
Victoria’s population is growing at around 150,000 people a year and the Andrews Labor Government has failed to properly plan for that growth.
As a result, local suburban and country sporting club facilities are increasingly rundown and stretched.
This new lighting will allow Somerville football and cricket teams to stage night matches against their greatest rivals and draw large crowds from near and far.
Upgraded lights will also allow for players to train more effectively and in greater safety.
Investing in our sporting facilities will help our local clubs grow, while giving their communities better access to sporting facilities for longer.
Having the opportunity to participate in sport is important to Victorians of all ages and for many reasons, including physical and mental health and social well-being.
Labor has been in office in Victoria for 15 of the last 19 years and they have badly neglected local sporting clubs.
With Victoria’s growing population, it’s important that we keep investing in local sporting clubs, so that we can make sure everyone has access to quality sporting facilities.
The Liberal Nationals will get back in control of population growth and stand up for all Victorians, unlike the city-centric Andrews Labor Government.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Sport, Danny O’Brien:
“Sports clubs like Somerville Football Netball Club are experiencing growth in participation and are finding it difficult to keep up with the increased demand for quality sporting facilities.
“Only a Liberal Nationals State Government will provide our community sporting clubs with the facilities they need and deserve.”
Comments attributable to Member for Hastings, Neale Burgess:
“I’m looking forward to being able to watch Somerville play its arch rivals on a Friday night. That’s the kind of environment that will take these great clubs and rivalries to an even higher level.
“It is vitally important that we support our grassroots sporting clubs by delivering quality facilities to allow for increased participation and female involvement.
“Only the Liberal Nationals will get back in control of population growth and support grassroots sport.”
