O’Brien: Lights on for the Wonga Park Wizards

Monday 3 September 2018

Lights on for the Wonga Park Wizards

An elected Liberal Nationals Government will contribute $80,000 towards the installation of lights at Launders Reserve.

Launders Reserve is home to the Wonga Park Wizards, a successful and growing soccer club, with over 200 participants, playing across 17 teams.

The addition of lights at the reserve will mean that teams will now be able to train at their home ground during the week, rather than travelling to other grounds suburbs away from Wonga Park.

The Wizards’ players, both male and female, come from right across the Warrandyte electorate and this contribution to the Club demonstrates a future Liberal Nationals Government’s commitment to the encouragement of children to get involved in an active lifestyle and to support grassroots sporting clubs.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Sport, Danny O’Brien:

“Ryan Smith has been doing extensive work across Warrandyte to support the growth of local grassroots clubs and has advocated strongly for this funding.

“The Liberal Nationals will always put grass roots sport first, unlike the Andrews Labor Government which has spent two thirds of its sport budget on the AFL and elite sport.”

Comments attributable to Member for Warrandyte, Ryan Smith:

“As a sponsor of this dynamic team, I am delighted to be able to broaden that support to a passionate group of young players.

“The Wizards’ Committee has been working hard to secure funding for this project, and they deserve this opportunity to support the development of their Club.”
