O’Brien: Making a splash in Eltham

Making a splash in Eltham

An elected Liberal Nationals Government will commit $20,000 to both the Diamond Valley Swimming Club and the EC Waves Swim Club to purchase new state-of-the-art equipment for use at swim meets and to support young swimmers with specialist training.

Both clubs are community based organisations run by parents and families and operate entirely on membership fees and sponsorships.

Having the opportunity to participate in sport is important to Victorians of all ages and for many reasons, including physical and mental health and social well-being.

Labor has been in office in Victoria for 15 of the last 19 years and they have badly neglected local sporting clubs.

Victoria’s population is growing at around 150,000 people a year and the Andrews Labor Government has failed to properly plan for that growth.

With Victoria’s growing population, it’s important that we keep investing in local sporting clubs, so that we can make sure everyone has access to quality sporting facilities.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Sport, Danny O’Brien:

“Swim clubs like Diamond Valley and EC Waves are so important to fostering new young talent.

“Only a Liberal Nationals Government will support local sporting clubs to encourage membership growth and participation in sport.”

Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Eltham, Nick McGowan:

“The community in Eltham is hugely involved in all sorts of sports. This funding will help EC Waves and Diamond Valley promote their clubs and get everyone involved.

“Only the Liberal Nationals will get back in control of funding for local sporting clubs and invest in grassroots sports.”
