Massive funding boost for sport in Ballarat
Out of control population growth in our regional suburbs is placing enormous pressure on our local sporting clubs.
An elected Liberal Nationals Government will contribute $5.1 million towards the upgrade of Ballarat Sports and Events Centre.
The upgrades will include improvements to the façade of the existing basketball stadium which will integrate it with the new building and create a single, cohesive sport and events space.
The funding will go towards constructing a strength, conditioning and learning centre that will benefit students at Federation University, local athletes and sporting clubs and will provide the entire Ballarat community with state of the art facilities.
Three new outdoor courts, included in the overall project will create a new public space which will promote health and fitness in the Ballarat community.
Unlike Daniel Andrews who has decided to give a massive $225 million of taxpayers’ money to the AFL to upgrade Etihad Stadium, the Liberal Nationals are getting behind cash-strapped local sporting clubs who desperately need our support.
These new facilities will create a modern environment for academic and physical education and provide more opportunities to ensure local sporting clubs can keep up with population growth.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Sport, Danny O’Brien:
“Amy Johnson is focusing on the issues that matter and she’s fighting for her local community and that’s why the Liberal Nationals are backing her policy to make the Ballarat Sports and Events Centre a state of the art facility for the Ballarat community.
“The Liberal Nationals will always put grass roots sport first, unlike the Labor Party which has spent two thirds of its sport budget on the AFL and elite sport.”
Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Wendouree, Amy Johnson:
“I’m passionate about local sport and the benefits it brings to our young people in the local Ballarat community.
“To deliver Stage 2 of the Ballarat Sports and Events Centre will provide a huge boost to the sporting facilities of Ballarat and as well broadening the learning opportunities for athletes and Federation University students.”
