Massive funding boost for sport in Frankston

Out of control population growth in our suburbs is placing enormous pressure on our local sporting clubs.

An elected Liberal Nationals Government will contribute over $8 million towards a new Regional Tennis and Gymnastics Centre at Centenary Park, Frankston, capable of hosting regional and international competitions.

The planned regional hub for gymnastics and tennis at Centenary Park will include a dedicated and fully equipped gymnastics centre, 16 new competition ready tennis courts, female friendly change rooms, a cafeteria, and function spaces.

This regional hub will also become the new home of the newly merged Frankston Tennis Club and Frankston East Tennis who were left without clubrooms and courts after Labor failed to adequately provide new grounds after acquiring the old ones.

Unlike Daniel Andrews who has decided to give a massive $225 million of taxpayers’ money to the AFL to upgrade Etihad Stadium, the Liberal Nationals are getting behind cash-strapped local sporting clubs who desperately need our support.

These new facilities will create a state of the art environment for tennis and gymnastics and provide more opportunities to ensure local sporting clubs can keep up with population growth.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Sport, Danny O’Brien:

“Michael Lamb has been doing extensive work in the local community to support the growth in grassroots sport and has advocated strongly for this funding.

Daniel Andrews’ priority of building a ballroom at Etihad stadium is all wrong. A Liberal Nationals Government will direct every dollar it can to community sport.”

Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Frankston, Michael Lamb:

“This sports centre will be a game changer for Frankston and will create a new public space which will promote health and fitness in our local community.

These facilities will provide the players, supporters and volunteers a safe environment to be able to play and work in.

If I’m elected as Member for Frankston, I will continue to keep working hard and keep delivering for the community.”

Comments attributable to Liberal Member for Hastings, Neale Burgess:

“Our community has for a long time, been calling for a world-class sports centre, where our kids can develop and perform at all levels, from local, state, national and international levels.

Labor has been in government for 15 of the last 19 years and has failed to provide a regional sporting facility. Only a Matthew Guy, Liberal Nationals government will support our sporting clubs in the way they deserve and so desperately need”.
