PALLAS EXPOSED ON EAST WEST LINK FALSEHOODS
The falsehoods of Labor’s Treasurer Tim Pallas have been exposed today.
Pallas has claimed in The Age that the letter of guarantee (or ‘side letter’) signed by the former Government – in response to Labor’s improper attempt to sabotage a live tender process – was drafted by the East West Connect consortium (EWC).
This is wrong – and a copy of a Ministerial briefing proves it.
In providing the draft letter to the former Treasurer for signature on 26 September 2014, the Department of Treasury and Finance confirmed “Clayton Utz prepared a draft form of the Side Letter in order to facilitate its execution”.
Clayton Utz was the legal adviser to the Linking Melbourne Authority; the Government agency delivering the East West Link project. Clayton Utz did not act for EWC; it acted for the Government.
If Tim Pallas had any shame – which he clearly does not – he would be embarrassed at having been exposed by the advice from his own department.
Pallas has a well-earned reputation for not being good with numbers. Now it’s clear that his words cannot be relied upon either.
