Crime Statistics: Daniel Andrews Can’t Go Soft on Crime
Today’s release of the Victorian crime statistics provides a stark message to Daniel Andrews that he can’t go soft on crime.
The figures show that Victoria must continue to build on the tough law and order agenda that was the hallmark of the last four years.
With the rise in drug and family violence, the decision by Daniel Andrews to slash* more than $20 million from family violence and Ice programs this year has been ill-sighted and ill-timed.
The Coalition delivered 1900 additional police and 950 PSOs to better protect communities. It is disgraceful that Labor has failed to commit to additional police resources.
We’re now hearing from the Attorney General about a watering down of crime laws. And the Police Minister’s reported comments today that “no one believes we can police our way out of family violence” also sends a weak message on law and order.
With 18,000 additional offences recorded and more than 68,000 family violence cases in 2014 Daniel Andrews must make his the protection of the community – and not the protection of his union mates – his number one priority.
