Liberal Nationals Carjacking Bill Passes Upper House
The Legislative Council has passed the Liberal Nationals carjackings legislation which sends a strong message of deterrence to these violent criminals.
Under Daniel Andrews, carjackings are up 80%, frontline police have been cut and police stations have either been closed or had their opening hours reduced.
Yet again Daniel Andrews is playing catch up on community safety initiatives. On the day the Government belatedly introduces carjacking legislation, the Liberal Nationals have passed with the support of the crossbench the carjacking bill that we first introduced to the Parliament back in June.
Daniel Andrews is leading a divided and dysfunctional government that is more focused on its own internal wars than it is on the law and order crisis currently gripping Victoria. It’s time he got his priorities right.
Not only did the Greens and Labor oppose this tough new law on carjackings, but the Minister for Corrections during the debate complained that a statutory minimum of five year was too harsh. This is a minister out of touch with the community.
Daniel Andrews should stop counting his numbers in caucus and start counting the number of police on the beat.
