Make Victoria Safe: Liberal Nationals to increase community safety in Torquay

An elected Liberal Nationals Government will work with Victoria Police to ensure that Torquay Police is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and also install a CCTV network in Torquay and Jan Juc to help keep locals safe.

Crime data obtained from the Crime Statistics Agency reveals since Daniel Andrews was elected, violent crimes against the person have increased by 51.3% and assault related offences are up 24%

Under Daniel Andrews, crime is out of control.

The Liberal Nationals have a plan to make Victoria safe by introducing tough mandatory minimum sentences, strong bail and parole reforms and a plan that will crack down on youth gangs.

Frontline police numbers have fallen under Daniel Andrews with Police Association figures showing there are now 190 fewer uniform officers than in 2013 despite Victoria’s population increasing by over half a million.

The Torquay area has also experienced drastic population growth in recent years, with an estimated population for 2036 around 25,000 – an increase of just under 70% in 18 years’ time.

The growth area of Armstrong Creek is also placing additional pressure of the police resourcing in Torquay.

Under Daniel Andrews we have also seen scores of police stations that have either been shut or had their opening hours cut.

Other Victorian Liberals police station commitments include:

  • Increasing opening hours to make Caroline Springs Police station 24/7
  • A new 24/7 police station at Clyde North
  • A rebuild of the police station at Monbulk
  • An upgrade and reopening of Burwood Police Station
  • A rebuild of the police station at Creswick
  • A rebuild of the police station in Prahran
  • A rebuild of Drouin Police Station
  • An upgrade of Whittlesea Police Station

Under Daniel Andrews, crime is out of control and only the Liberal Nationals are committed to ensuring all Victorians feel safe in their communities.

As Daniel Andrews’ own community safety trustee, Ron Iddles OAM APM has said 24/7 police stations are a place of safety, particularly for family violence victims.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Police, Edward O’Donohue:

“A Matthew Guy Government will Victoria safe again.

The Torquay community deserves to feel safe, yet under Daniel Andrews all they get are forgotten police stations and rising crime.

Daniel Andrews has lost control of law and order, only the Liberal Nationals will make Victoria safe by investing in more police on the beat and safety measures like better public lighting and CCTV cameras for the Torquay community.”

Comments attributable to Member for South Barwon, Andrew Katos:

“It is vital that the Torquay community has the resources it needs to fight crime and protect our communities when we need help the most.

Violent crime and youth gangs are out of control under Daniel Andrews and communities like Torquay are paying the price.

Only a Matthew Guy led government will deliver tough on crime and community safety polices to keep residents in Torquay safe.”
