Prison rioter let off the hook
Today, a convicted criminal who “was an enthusiastic participant” in the biggest prison riot in Victoria’s history has avoided jail time despite the serious injuries and property damage caused.
It is no wonder Victorians have lost confidence in Daniel Andrews’ ability to manage the justice system in this state.
The repair bill from the Metropolitan Prison Riot cost taxpayers over $100 million and has left scores of hard working prison officers with serious physical and psychological injuries.
As of 31 October 2017, more than two years since the riot, there were still 11 prison officers on Workcover, lives deeply impacted because of Daniel Andrews’ loss of control of the prison system.
Only a Matthew Guy Government will toughen the sentencing regime with minimum jail times, put victims of crime first and restore order to the prison system.
