‘Sky Rail’ for Mernda?
Daniel Andrews must rule out turning the unfunded Mernda Rail extension into a ‘sky rail’, and ruin the amenity of the growth area.
Daniel Andrews’ secret plan to build elevated rail, up to four storeys above street level along the Pakenham line, will have major implications for Mernda.
The structure of the elevated rail, including poles and overhead wires, will be a visual eye-sore across Yan Yean.
The elevation of the rail line will result in train noise being projected across greater distances.
Before the election Daniel Andrews liked to talk about the importance of election mandates. But at no point did Daniel Andrews tell people in Yan Yean that that he was going to elevate the rail line.
Proper consultation with the Mernda community must be undertaken this year with the rail elevated option clear.
Daniel Andrews must come clean to the Yan Yean electorate on whether he’ll adopt a cheaper ‘sky rail’ option for the Mernda Rail extension, and make it a visual eye-sore across Mernda.
There remains community concern that the proposed Mernda rail will be elevated through parts of South Morang (around Hawkestowe) and will be overhead at Bridge Inn Road.
Even Yan Yean MP Danielle Green has refused to rule out elevated rail.
