Daniel Andrews Government delays Gargasoulas proceedings

Scathing comments by the Supreme Court that the Andrews Labor Government has been responsible for delays in criminal proceedings against James Gargasoulas demand an urgent solution as well as a full explanation from Daniel Andrews and his Attorney General, Martin Pakula.

The delays by the Department of Justice and Regulation as described by the Court are totally unacceptable, but sadly not surprising.

Daniel Andrews has still not changed Victoria’s bail laws 11 months after one of our worst ever tragedies.

The Government’s delays will only exacerbate the trauma and anguish that victims, their families and the wider community have experienced because of yet another catastrophic breakdown of our bail system.

Real change is needed which is why Matthew Guy has announced a major overhaul of bail laws, mandatory sentencing for our worst offenders and other key reforms to fix Victoria’s justice system.
