Labor must focus on all extremism

The Andrews Labor Government has merged the operations of the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) with the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship (OMAC) and the Community Resilience Unit (CRU) to achieve greater efficiency freeing up resources to focus more on right wing extremism.

It is reported that the Minister for Multicultural Affairs Robin Scott will confirm a focus on right wing extremism in a speech to be delivered and the Writers Festival at Federation Square today.

The Victorian community is concerned about left wing and right wing extremism visible in rallies held around the state.

VicPol had been equally critical of both who have been responsible for increasingly violent rallies.

Shadow Minster for Multicultural Affairs Inga Peulich has called on the Andrews Labor government to ensure the violent behaviour of left wing and right wing extremists remains the focus without fear or favour.

Quotes attributed to Inga Peulich, Shadow Minister for Multicultural Affairs:

Victorians don’t want to see left wing radicals treated with kid gloves by Daniel Andrews, his ministers and government just because they may be ideologically aligned with Victorian Labor.

The Liberal Nationals support more police numbers, more police stations being opened for longer hours and a tougher approach on sentencing and parole

Victorians expect lawlessness to be addressed no matter who is involved.
