Labor lies jeopardising rural water security
The Andrews Labor Government has been caught out in a lie on rural water security.
Water Minister Lisa Neville accused the Federal Government of refusing to contribute funds to the East Grampians Water Supply Pipeline project.
It’s now been revealed Victoria had failed to submit an application for funding.
An application was finally submitted on May 8 – the day of the Federal Budget and nearly two weeks after Lisa Neville first accused the Commonwealth of not providing any funding.
It’s the responsibility of state and territory governments to submit an expression of interest for funding under the Federal Government’s $440 million National Water Infrastructure Development Fund.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Water, Steph Ryan:
“Lisa Neville’s been caught in a lie on rural water security and she’s trying to divert attention by shifting the blame.
“Lisa Neville’s decision to use the East Grampians Water Supply Pipeline as a political football has denied East Grampians landholders the opportunity for the project to be delivered in full.
“I will continue to speak to my Federal colleagues about Victoria’s water needs. It’s a shame that Lisa Neville isn’t doing the same.”
