$7.5 million investment in Mentone Girls’ Secondary College

If elected in November, a Liberal Nationals Government will invest $7.5 million to upgrade Mentone Girls’ Secondary College.

The funding will go toward the finalisation of the school’s masterplan and the development of Stage One of that plan in building a dedicated Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.) Centre.

This investment indicates the importance the Liberal Nationals’ place in S.T.E.A.M. education and preparing young people, especially young women, to tackle the high-tech jobs of the future.

As one of only six government girls’ schools in Victoria and the only non-selective girls’ school in the Southern Region, this significant investment indicates the Liberal Nationals’ commitment to backing the education of young women and giving parents the choice in education options for their children.

The facilities at the school are deteriorating at an alarming rate and only a Matthew Guy led Government will replace rundown classrooms built more than 50 years ago, with 21st century facilities.

Comments attributable to the Shadow Minister for Education, Tim Smith:

“When I visited Mentone Girls’ Secondary College, it was clear to me that the school needed critical infrastructure works and that it had been neglected by the Andrews Labor Government for far too long.

A Liberal Nationals Government is committed to supporting the students, staff and families of the Mentone Girls’ Secondary College community.”

Comments attributable to Member for the Southern Metropolitan Region, Georgie Crozier:

“These desperately needed works will fix major structural issues at Mentone Girls’, including removing loose asbestos, and give current and future students – and their families – the confidence to attend a school which provides students with a top education in first class educational facilities.”

Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Mordialloc, Geoff Gledhill:

“Matthew Guy and his team are committed to helping schools achieve the very best educational outcomes possible. They know that can’t happen when students and staff are expected to work in substandard facilities.

Mentone Girls’ Secondary College enjoys a wonderful reputation for the educational experiences it provides for every student and they achieve them in some very trying conditions. Today’s announcement will provide a tremendous boost in delivering those experiences and outcomes.”

Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Sandringham, Brad Rowswell:

“I am thrilled to announce this investment in Mentone Girls’ Secondary College. The state of some school buildings is totally unacceptable and the students, staff and school community deserve so much better.

This significant $7.5 million investment demonstrates just how serious the Liberals are about driving the best possible educational outcomes in the best possible school accommodation for students in the Sandringham electorate.”
