Smith: Labor’s Bolte Bungle

Wednesday 16 March 2016

Labor’s Bolte Bungle

Victorians are now living out a scene from The Truman Show, no matter which way they go, they are blocked at every turn by Daniel Andrews. Daniel Andrews’ hatred of motorists would be comical if it weren’t so cruel.

The chaotic scenes today on the Bolte Bridge and West Gate Freeway are a direct result of Tim Pallas’ bungled design of the current interchange as Roads Minister in the former Labor Government.

In 2008 as Roads Minister, Tim Pallas boasted that the current interchange would remove “the knot” in the freeway and result in a “better flowing corridor”, a year later he doubled-down, calling it a “massive improvement”.[1]

Instead of the “flowing corridor” Labor promised, Pallas’ botched project has given us a car park. As if this weren’t bad enough, Daniel Andrews’ axing of the East West Link has left Victorians with no alternative route to the Bolte and West Gate.

Labor’s hatred of motorists has now condemned Victorians to years of congestion, choke points and frustration with no relief in sight.
