Smith: Labor’s zigzag roads policy

Labor’s zigzag roads policy

Only Daniel Andrews could waste $1.2 billion to not build a road, then vow to not build another new road and then backflip and say he is now committed to building that very same road.

You just cannot trust anything Daniel Andrews says about roads.

It was Daniel Andrews who sat around the Cabinet table and supported Sir Rod Eddington’s recommendation to build the East West Link.  Daniel Andrews supported the East West Link, up until when he didn’t.

Then Daniel Andrews said the contract for the East West Link was “not worth the paper it was written on” and wouldn’t cost taxpayers one cent to cancel.

It was also Daniel Andrews who said in 2014 that “a Labor Government would not support the construction of the North East Link” and that “he did not want a transport alternative that would cost $100 billion and take more than 50 years to deliver.” (Heidelberg Leader, 25 March 2014)

And it was Daniel Andrews again who announced just four months ago, $35 million for a development study, which would not be completed until mid-2018, which was supposed to determine many of the issues re-announced today.
