Smith: Liberals to build Mansfield Stadium

Liberals to build Mansfield Stadium

An elected Liberal Nationals Government will contribute $3.5 million towards building a new multipurpose stadium with two basketball courts at Mansfield Secondary College.

The stadium will provide a second home for the Mansfield Basketball Association, allowing for competitions and tournaments to be hosted, addressing short and long-term participation demands and removing barriers to participation for young people of all ages and abilities.

The new stadium will create more opportunities for existing users of the Mansfield Sporting Complex including social lifeball and badminton competitions. There will be also potential for other community uses such as performances and public speaking events.

This funding will ensure the proposed sports complex at the school will have an additional basketball court as well as a run off area, change rooms, an administration area, seating, outdoor car park, underground drainage, and lighting.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Education, Tim Smith:

“Cindy McLeish has worked hard to deliver this funding for the Mansfield Community, building on Cindy’s record of advocating and delivering for Mansfield Secondary College.

“Unlike Daniel Andrews, the Liberal Nationals won’t hand over millions of dollars to the AFL to spend on Etihad Stadium. Our goal will be to prioritise funding to local sports clubs to help local kids stay active and healthy.”

Comments attributable to Member for Eildon, Cindy McLeish:

“This investment will be a game changer for our community.

Mansfield is a growing community and that has been highlighted by the added strain on local sporting facilities.

Existing plans for a single court gymnasium will limit the ability of school and the community to engage in sport and other social activities. Not providing a larger space now would be a missed opportunity.

Expanding the gymnasium will mean more kids and local community groups will have access to the facilities they deserve.”
