- In the past year, the Andrews Labor Government’s carbon emissions have increased by almost 25,000 tonnes.
- Daniel Andrews announced binding targets for Victoria to be carbon neutral by 2050.
- The Labor Government has made it mandatory for all government departments to pledge actions to reduce emissions from their operations and move towards low carbon technologies and practices
- On 9 June 2016, Daniel Andrews said: “Victoria is once again leading the nation when it comes to tackling climate change.”
Comments attributed to David Southwick MP, Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources:
“Daniel Andrews is nothing more than a garden variety hypocrite who refuses to live by the same rules that he preaches for everybody else.”
“Daniel Andrews has been all too eager to sacrifice thousands of Victorian jobs and affordable electricity prices by shutting down the Hazelwood power plant but when it comes to living up to his own standards is a complete phony.”
“The Latrobe Valley is facing a thousand jobs losses and hardship because of Daniel Andrews’ hypocritical policy to close Hazelwood under the green guise of cutting emissions.”
“The only plan Daniel Andrews has for the Latrobe Valley is to shut it down.”
“Labor’s go-it-alone energy policies are at odds with national targets. Daniel Andrews’ thought bubbles will cost jobs and put Victoria at risk of a South Australia style black-out all so he can get more ‘likes’ on his Facebook page.”
