Southwick: Daniel Andrews v Engie

Tuesday 19 June 2018

Daniel Andrews v Engie

In Question Time today Daniel Andrews denied his coal royalty tax had anything to do with Engie’s announced closure of Hazelwood a few months later.

Engie on 27 April 2016 described the new tax increase as “surprising and disappointing” and said it would “have a detrimental impact on the region’s energy sector.”

Engie also said: “This announcement will mean a significant increase in our operating costs and comes at a time of very difficult energy market conditions. We understand the three-fold increase in royalties will equate to some $20 million a year for Hazelwood.”

Once again, Daniel Andrews and the truth are strangers.
