Labor’s botched bushfire safety scheme

Reports today have confirmed Daniel Andrews has botched Victoria’s bushfire mitigation strategy just months from summer.

Labor cannot manage major projects and Victorians are paying for it through higher power prices and cost of living.

The cost of rolling out Rapid Earth Fault Current Limiters (REFCL), a key recommendation of the Black Saturday Bushfire Safety Taskforce has blown out from $151 million to $540 million in only 3 years.

The cost blowout of this project is set to fall directly on energy customers, with Victorians expected to be slugged with an extra $10 on their energy bills next year and up to $12 in 2020.

Under Daniel Andrews, Victorians are already paying $300 more for electricity, up to $500 more for gas and are now being asked to pick up the bill for Labor’s latest botched energy project.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources, David Southwick:

“Victorian families are paying for Labor’s waste through higher power prices.

Even a dollar wasted by Daniel Andrews is a dollar more taxpayers now need to pay.

Victorian households are being slugged with a $22 energy bill increase to cover the cost blowout of this botched project.

Only a Matthew Guy Government will get the ideology out of energy and ease cost of living pressures for all Victorians.”
