Southwick: No gas price relief in sight under do-nothing Labor

No gas price relief in sight under do-nothing Labor

Reports today by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) highlight the precarious outlook for Victoria’s future gas supply.

AEMO has outlined Victoria’s “need for reserves and resources not yet developed to be brought to market in the short term to meet forecast demand”.

Furthermore, AEMO identified from 2021 “constraints around production and processing capacities in Queensland could start to limit the amount of support the north can provide to the south”.

Only a Liberal Nationals Government will overturn Labor’s onshore gas ban, securing our state’s gas supply and easing cost-of-living pressures for all Victorians.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources, David Southwick MP:

“This report confirms that under Labor, Victorians who are already paying up to $500 more for gas are likely to pay even more in the near future.

Daniel Andrews and Labor are only offering more of the same while the Liberal Nationals plan to allow gas exploration will help put the brakes on gas prices.

Despite the need for action to avoid potential gas shortages and further price spikes, Daniel Andrews would rather waste $42.5 million on a report due in 2020 than secure Victoria’s energy future now.

Victorians can’t be left dependent on other states gas to heat their homes in winter, only a Guy Government will boost Victoria’s gas supply and fix the energy mess Labor has created.”
