Time for Daniel Andrews to commit to smoking ban
Last year the former Coalition Government publicly committed to banning smoking in outdoor dining areas, in this term of Government.
The ban would have taken effect after detailed consultation with industry and health groups.
It was also a Coalition Government which passed laws in 2014 to ban smoking near schools, hospitals and other public buildings, which the Andrews Government is now implementing.
Quotes Attributed to Mary Wooldridge MP, Shadow Minister for Health:
“Daniel Andrews needs to stop dragging his feet and commit to banning smoking in outdoor dining areas.
“This is a public health issue. Victoria is now the only State in Australia that does not have a timetable for such a ban.
“Victoria enjoys world-class outdoor dining. We want to make that dining experience even better.
“The Coalition is committed to removing smoking from outdoor dining areas. It’s time for Daniel Andrews to stand up for children, patrons and hospitality workers and restrict their exposure to second-hand smoke.”
