Christmas in Melbourne set to shine even brighter
If elected a Liberal National Coalition government will introduce an annual 24-day-long Christmas market event in the heart of Melbourne to be run in conjunction with the City of Melbourne’s Christmas activities.
The Melbourne Christmas markets will be similar to the European Christmas markets seen in countries like Austria, Germany and the UK.
The market would run along the Yarra River at Birrarung Marr from December 1st 2019. Goods sold would be made locally and provide an opportunity for Victorians to show case their wares similar to how the St Kilda Esplanade Sunday market and Sunday Art Centre market operate.
Many tourists visit Melbourne for a unique Summer Christmas. Improving the Christmas aesthetic, festivities and opportunity to purchase hand-made authentic Australian and Victorian goods will vastly improve the visitor experience.
Under Daniel Andrews, Melbourne lost the title of the world’s most liveable city, the Liberal Nationals will work to get that ranking back by investing in the events and activities that make Melbourne great.
Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Tourism and Major Events, Heidi Victoria:
“These Christmas markets will be a month-long celebration in Melbourne of all things Christmas.”
“This will bring Melbourne out on the world stage”
“Victorian families have made a tradition of visiting Melbourne’s Christmas festival, the Liberal Nationals are committed to making this tradition more enjoyable and memorable.”
“The Christmas Markets will be an additional drawcard to visiting Melbourne in December and will only add to Victoria’s visitor economy.”
