Daniel Andrews axing cancer beds costing Victorians $100 million
The massive cost of Daniel Andrews’ ideological decision to scrap Peter Mac Private on the 13th floor of the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre (VCCC) continues to grow.
Secretary Kym Peake revealed at a Department of Health and Human Services parliamentary estimates inquiry that the State Government has spent $11.9m fitting out the 13th floor of the VCCC for tenants who have yet to move in.
As a result of Daniel Andrews’ terrible decision to cut 42 cancer beds and 4 operating theatres, Peter Mac has lost millions of dollars in income including $40m in philanthropic donations, $12m in pharmacy and radiology income and a $23.8 million hospital fitout, and has to pay $10 million in rent for the floor as well as $11.9 million setting up the floor for the new tenants.
Under an Andrews Labor Government, Victorians and Peter Mac have spent almost $100m to have 10,000 fewer cancer patients treated each year.
Quotes attributable to Shadow Minister for Health Mary Wooldridge:
Daniel Andrews is denying thousands of Victorian cancer patients the world class treatment they deserve and costing taxpayers $100 million in the process.
It is unbelievable that this divisive Premier is happy to leave 10,000 cancer patients a year worse off as a result of his ideological obsessions.
