Wooldridge: Liberal Nationals will complete GV Health redevelopment

Liberal Nationals will complete GV Health redevelopment

The Liberal Nationals will finish the redevelopment of Goulburn Valley Health and are getting on with the job.

An elected Liberal Nationals Government will provide more than $21 million to complete the GV Health Masterplan, deliver a Residential Mother and Baby Unit and progress early works and planning of Stage 2 of the hospital redevelopment. Construction of Stage 2 will follow on from the conclusion of the current building works and the entire redevelopment will be completed within 2 terms.

Stage 2 of the redevelopment includes the Integrated Cancer Centre as well as new and expanded mental health, outpatients, hospital in the home and car parking facilities.

The Andrews Labor Government has deliberately stalled the masterplan for Stage 2 of GV Health and the Integrated Cancer Centre. The GV Health Masterplan was due for completion in March, pushed out to May and then finally July but two weeks out from Election Day, the work is still yet to be completed.

Unfortunately, Suzanna Sheed has been complicit in Labor’s mismanagement of the GV Health Masterplan. Ms Sheed has continuously failed to hold Labor to account for this disgraceful delay and has let down the people of Shepparton District as a result.

In contrast, the Liberal Nationals commit to delivering a fully redeveloped GV Hospital, and immediately getting on with building the 5-bed Residential Mother and Baby Unit, concluding the masterplan and undertaking the design and early works stage.

Victoria is growing at around 150,000 people every year and most of the growth in occurring in Melbourne, which is not sustainable. That’s why the Liberal Nationals will establish a Population Taskforce to tackle the pressing issue of rapid population growth head-on, embarking on a long-term strategy for Victoria’s future.

Making sure that we have a plan for health, education and emergency services is a vital part of our population policy. Completing the GV Health redevelopment is planning for regional Victoria’s future health needs.

Matthew Guy and the Liberal Nationals have a vision to have a state of cities not a city state, but in order to do that we need to get ahead of vital infrastructure and services.

That’s why the Liberal Nationals will build faster rail between Shepparton and Melbourne, ensuring Shepparton has faster, newer trains, more often.

The Liberal Nationals will revitalise the city’s rail services and help decentralise Victoria’s economic and population growth.

The Liberal Nationals have a clear plan for regional Victoria.

The stalling of the masterplan process shows that Labor and Suzanna Sheed cannot be trusted to deliver the health services Shepparton both needs and deserves.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Health, Mary Wooldridge:

“Women in the Shepparton area will be able to stay together with their babies, when they might otherwise be admitted to the Adult Acute Unit and separated from their infants or even have to travel to Melbourne for their mental health care.

Labor had their chance and they have failed to deliver the masterplan they said they would. Only the Liberal Nationals have committed to invest to finish the redevelopment of GV Health.”

Comments attributable to Liberal Candidate for Shepparton, Cheryl Hammer:

“This will be very welcome news to the people of the Shepparton electorate.

Unlike the actions of the current Member for Shepparton, if elected I will get on with the job of building the Residential Mother and Baby Unit and Stage 2 of the hospital redevelopment.”

Comments attributable to The Nationals Candidate for Shepparton, Peter Schwarz:

“I know how important GV health is to our communities across the Shepparton electorate -my children were born at Goulburn Valley Hospital.

Upgrading GV Health and delivering a new Residential Mother and Baby Unit will mean our local hospital can provide better care for our community.

I believe our community deserves a better deal on health care and that’s what this investment will deliver.”
