Petition launched to support Peter Mac Cancer Centre
Victorians can now have their say on Daniel Andrews’ plan to scrap 42 hospital beds from the new Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
The Andrews Government is under fire after announcing plans to tear up an agreement that would deliver world class cancer care services for more Victorians.
The row has led to the sudden resignation of the Chair of the Peter Mac board, Wendy Harris QC.
Ms Harris has stated that Daniel Andrews’ actions would result in the loss of $20 million in philanthropic donations from the public for the cancer centre.
An online petition has now been set up which calls on Daniel Andrews to reverse his cuts to hospital beds for Peter Mac cancer patients.
Comments from the Shadow Minister for Health, Mary Wooldridge:
“Daniel Andrews is putting his own political ideology over better health outcomes for Victorian cancer patients.
“This is a decision which will result in the loss of $20 million in donations for the cancer hospital.
“This issue highlights a growing sense that Daniel Andrews is driven more by his own agenda than good policy outcomes for the community.
“People can now voice their opposition to the loss of cancer treatment beds through an online petition.”
